Religion and Politics in Brazil: A Talk w/ Dr. Tatiana Lionço

Brazil joined a growing list of countries that have elected so-called, “populist” right-wing governments, with the ascension of Jair Bolsonaro to the presidency. A key factor that enabled Bolsonaro’s rise to power was his repudiation of pro-LGBT policies.

As activists, professors and researchers who support gender equality and recognition of sexual diversity have been cast as “enemies” of the Brazilian people, Dr. Tatiana Lionço (Universidade de Brasília) will discuss this conservative backlash.
