Two major choral works, Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” and Timothy Michael Powell’s Mass No. 1 “Wedding Mass” will be performed at Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall, on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at 8 p.m.
Appearing with Distinguished Concerts Singers International are soloists
Sigrún Hjálmtýsdóttir Diddú, soprano;
Dillon McCartney, tenor; and
Bergthór Pálsson, baritone.
The Distinguished Concerts Orchestra International will be conducted by Gardar Cortes.
Timothy Michael Powell’s “Wedding Mass,” with new orchestration, will be conducted by the composer. Soprano Suzannah Moorman is the soloist.
Choruses comprising the Distinguished Concerts Singers International in “Carmina Burana” are Íslenski Kvennakórinn, Reykjavík (IS); Landsvirkjunarkórinn, Reykjavík (IS); Óperukórinn i Reykjavík (IS); Skagfirska Söngsveitin, Reykjavík (IS),
Carminakórinn Skagafirdi, Saudarkrókur (IS); Fairfield University Chamber Singers (CT); and Mendelssohn Choir of Connecticut (CT).
Choruses performing in “Wedding Mass” are North Mississippi United Methodist Church Choir, Batesville (MS); Baytown Community Chorus (TX); Lee College Chorale, Baytown (TX); Chancel Choir of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, Houston (TX); and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Chancel Choir, Cypress (TX).

Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) was founded by Iris Derke, General Director; and Jonathan Griffith, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor. DCINY provides opportunities for choral, instrumental, jazz, and chamber ensembles, as well as conductors and soloists, to perform at such venues as Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Town Hall in New York City, and other major venues. A strong component of DCINY’s mission, as stated in the DCINY motto, “The Art of Performance – The Power of Education,” is to enhance the concert experience through educational programs and incentives. These include support in meeting performance standards and optional master classes and seminars.
