Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) is proud to present premieres of three works by Karl Jenkins, hailed by WalesOnline (UK) as “the UK’s best-selling modern classical composer.” The concert will take place at Avery Fisher Hall on Monday, January 19, 2009, 8pm. The Independent (UK) states, “[Karl Jenkins] is a rarity among contemporary composers, balancing popularity with innovation...”

He is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including the Order of the British Empire for his services to music. Karl Jenkins holds an Honorary Doctorate in Music from the University of Leicester and a Chancellor’s Medal from the University of Glamorgan. He is both a Fellow and an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, where a room has been named in his honor.

Works include the World Premiere Performance of the violin concerto “Sarikiz”, showcasing the talents of Kazakh violinist Marat Bisengaliev, for whom the piece was written; and US Premieres of Stabat Mater and Te Deum, featuring Belinda Sykes, Vocals and Mey, and Charlotte Daw Paulsen, Mezzo-Soprano. The Distinguished Concerts Orchestral International and the Distinguished Concerts Singers International will perform under the direction of conductors Karl Jenkins, and DCINY Artistic Director Jonathan Griffith.
