Engage in ArtTalk with "bad-girl" painter Lisa Yuskavage
American Federation of Arts presents:
ArtTalks with Lisa Yuskavage

6:30pm-8pm
Artist reception to follow
American Federation of Arts (AFA)
41 East 65th Street (Madison and Park)
New York
Admission is $15; $10 for AFA members and students with valid identification.
Seating is limited and reservations are required. For reservations, please click events@afaweb.org or call 212.988.7700, ext. 64.
Part of the ArtTalk lecture series, painter Lisa Yuskavage will speak about her luscious paintings of cartoonish, often anatomically exaggerated female images.
Audience members are invited to join Ms. Yuskavage for an intimate reception at the AFA after the talk.
While the content of Yuskavage's work is provocative and sometimes disturbing, the formal qualities are enticing. Manipulating paint in a style that synthesizes abstraction and representation, she skillfully quotes from and refers to a wide range of art historical periods. The nude portraits of young women are full of sensuous but ultimately mocking exaggerations.
Yuskavage is a native of Philadelphia and graduate of the Tyler School of Arts and Yale. Her work has been presented in over fifty group shows, including the 2000 Whitney Biennial and exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, P.S. 1/The Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Aldrich Museum, Connecticut.
The AFA is a nonprofit institution that organizes art exhibitions for presentation in museums around the world, publishes exhibition catalogues, and develops education programs. For more information, please visit: www.afaweb.org.
